NEWS MARCH '07

Well it has been an exciting start to the new year. We have had many new students join Tai Shi Kai and we welcome all of those who have become part of the Tai Shi Kai family this year. Sempai Ben's under 10's class has had the biggest boost and has more than doubled its numbers.

Congratulations to Sempai Jason and Sempai Peter who passed their shodan (1st Dan) black belts at the end of last year. They now have their own instructor profiles which includes the essays they presented for their gradings. Go to the instructors page for more information.

This year we have a number of Dan grade gradings. Sempais Scott, Luke, Ben and Genevieve will be attempting their Nidan (2nd Dan) gradings in June and Sempai Evan will be attempting his Sandan (3rd Dan) grading in July. The pressure is on all these black belts to train hard and produce the best gradings they can. We are sure they will do well and wish them all the best for their training and gradings.

Jenni Koski trained with Tai Shi Kai a couple of years ago when she was on a working holiday from Finland. On Feb. 17 she made a surprise visit to the Honbu dojo to say hi! It turns out that she was in town for a few days on the end of another holiday around Australia and she thought that it would be great to catch up.(See photo below) It was great to see her again and it was interesting to hear that she is considering making her next visit to Australia more permanent.

In other news Sempai Genevieve is moving to Perth to take up a new job prospect. Sempai Robert will join her later this year. The move is unlikely to be permanent, although they are hoping to be there for a few years. While over in Perth, Sempai Robert will look into setting up Tai Shi Kai's first dojo in Western Australia.

Coming up later this year is our biannual camp in Anglesea. It will be held on the 12-14th October. More details will follow in future newsletters!

The Tai Shi Kai website has had a large update this month; we have new essays and new instructor profiles and many more changes are planned for the next update - we are hoping to add new photos, more video and generally make the site more user friendly.
