OCTOBER NEWS

Our bi annual weekend karate camp was held at the beautiful seaside resort of Anglesea over the weekend of 12th, 13th and 14th of October. Great weather and a record crowd of eager students made for a very happy and successful camp. W.A. Chief instructor Sempai Robert New and his wife Sempai Genevieve travelled over from Perth to attend the camp.

Grading presentations were held on Saturday morning with many smiling faces from the students who had one week earlier passed their gradings. Once the presentations were over it was time for all students to start learning a new sanbon kumite or kihon kumite technique. The kyu grades were shown their new techniques by the all of the blackbelts under the watchful eye of Shihan. Saturday afternoon was spent on kata practice, with all students including the blackbelts learning some new kata moves including bunkai (applications).

Everone was eager to get to Sundays session where students were taken through a variety of training drills and applications using Knife, Bo, Cane, Bokken and Sticks. The highlight of the morning though, was the Tai Shi Kai goanna wrestling championships. This camp saw three new champions, Junior male winner was Wesley Zagorc, Senior female winner was Kylie Daniel and senior male winner was Simon Aloi. Congratulations guys and congratulations to all participants, you all fought strongly with that “never give in” spirit.

Sunday afternoon came too fast and following lunch it was time to say goodbye till our next camp in October 2009. Lots of photos, hugs and goodbyes and a long drive back to Melbourne. A very big thankyou to Shihan for arranging the camp. Also to Sensei Evan for a wonderful fare on the Friday night. A big thankyou to all blackbelts for their help throughout the weekend.
