KARATE-DO
Our obligation and responsibility

Throughout the world today, where most people are well provided for and want for little, where self interest and indifference has become the norm, Karate has a necessary and important role to play in contributing to the health and wellbeing of our society. By educating the community, especially the young, in the way of traditional Karate, we can cultivate people with strong minds and strong bodies who are able to function as role models in our society to the benefit of all.

Karate training is a moral training, as well as a physical one. It’s not just about teaching fighting skills and self defence. Traditional Karate taught in the correct manner, will not only cultivate people to be able to defend themselves, but just as importantly, it will nurture within them a sense of responsibility, a sense of justice, a sense of courage and pride, which will help them behave responsibly. It is important to be aware of this side of Karate training which is concerned with development of a good character and good morals.

Traditional Karate-do should be seen as a brotherhood or family whereby all students - men, women and children are bonded by a common interest of loyalty, obligation and duty to each other in friendship and co-operation regardless of what rank they may be. Traditional Karate-do will help build self confidence without egotism. Traditional Karate-do will help develop the mind, body and spirit of the student. Regardless of rank or how long we have been practicing, we are all students helping one another along the path. We enter this world with nothing and we leave with nothing but the good we do throughout our life is our true measure of worth.
